What is an Integrative Practice?

Traditional Counseling meets holistic Psychotherapy

As an Integrative Psychotherapist, I use traditional clinical and psychological models to understand a person’s thoughts, feelings, and behavior. However, I’m also focused on many aspects of the whole person and consider how things like thought patterns, emotional habits, nutrition, environment, physical health, environmental energy, social & intimate relationships, and lifestyle either create well-being or imbalance in a person’s life. I understand that a variety of care techniques, like talk therapy, yoga, art therapy, mindfulness, and other techniques can facilitate healing and establish balance.

In addition to concepts connected to counseling and psychology, I believe in the principles of Holistic Medicine defined by the American Holistic Health Association (AIHM).

“Holistic medicine is the art and science of healing that addresses the whole person – body, mind, and spirit. The practice of holistic medicine integrates conventional and alternative therapies to prevent and treat disease, and most importantly, to promote optimal health. This condition of holistic health is defined as the unlimited and unimpeded free flow of life force energy through body, mind, and spirit.

Holistic medicine encompasses all safe and appropriate modalities of diagnosis and treatment. It includes analysis of physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, spiritual, and lifestyle elements. Holistic medicine focuses upon patient education and participation in the healing process.” ~ Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine

An integrative approach helps me support you, as a whole person, not just treat a diagnosis.
