Hi! I’m Myque
Pronounced “Mike”
I’m so glad you’re here!
about me
So much of who I am is about connecting with people. Specifically, connecting with someone's story. We all have a personal story. We are the sum of our experiences.
Like others, my personal story includes moments of overwhelming heartache and pain, as well as moments of mind-blowing joy and happiness. Overall, the good moments have surely outweighed the bad. Through it all, I have learned to navigate the peaks and valleys of life and have developed a passion to help others do the same.
I’m a helper at heart
Let me help you along your journey…
I’ve been a licensed therapist since 2007. I love this work because it connects me to someone’s journey and gives me the opportunity to help them along the way. I’m a helper by nature (Not surprisingly, I’m a 2 “Helper” on the Enneagram).
My 2 is very closely followed by a 7 “Enthusiast” on the Enneagram. I’m an open-minded, eclectic, free-spirited person. Always have been.
Anxiety, ADHD, Depression, Life transitions, Relationship, Attachment style, Trauma, Emotional Regulation, PMDD, and Life Coaching are a few areas of speciality. Concerning clinical issues, I utilize research based methods and actively work to reduce anxiety and mood fluctuation by teaching healthy coping, meditation, and clinical skills. I am trained to support all ages across the lifespan. In the first 10 years of my career I supported young children. In the latter 10 years I primarily work with teenagers, young adult, and adult women. I also see boys 14 and up and adult men. Helping them specifically with navigating relationships and developing communication skills and emotional mindfulness. I support LGBTQIA+ individuals and families connected to their journey. I support People of Color, especially Black and Brown teens, young adults, and adult men and women. I have a dynamic family systems practice and support all family types by offering support for single parents, co-parenting coaching, and traditional family therapy.
I was a three-sport athlete when I was younger and continue to channel my athletic enthusiasm through my yoga practice. I love yoga and became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) in 2014. Yoga exposed me to meditation practices and propelled me to learn more about how mindfulness activities can benefit our overall health.
Fun fact: I received a Bachelors in psychology from the same Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Nashville, TN that Oprah Winfrey graduated from. A few years later I obtained a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University in Maryland. In between undergraduate and graduate school, I worked as the Lab Manager at the “Cornell Baby Lab”, a research lab at Cornell University, where we studied perception development in infants ages 6 weeks to 11 months.
If I had it my way, I’d be traveling the globe indulging in all the world has to offer. I have lived in 6 states and have traveled to some cool places internationally, including studying the civil war of El Salvador, living 3 months in Costa Rica, and exploring multiple countries in Africa. One of my favorites was when my family spent a couple weeks exploring The Dominican Republic. Another was when my family spent a week exploring Curaçao, a lovely island off the coast of Venezuela. One of my most memorable trips was a mother/daughter trip to Disney with my mother. I was 46 and she was 72!
Living in different places and traveling abroad has given me an appreciation for our unique differences, which is why I’m passionate about supporting a diverse group of clients.
For the time being, it’s reasonable to say that my career, family, and motherhood has grounded me. But watch out world, every year, whether domestic or international, I’m looking for a new place to visit. In the future, I hope to travel to The Grand Canyon, South Africa, Singapore, The Maldives, Panama, Europe, and Toga, an African country, where a little girl we have sponsored since 2017 through Compassion International lives.
In 2010, I left private practice in Maryland and have been in Charlotte ever since. I was a part of a group practice here in Charlotte for 5 ½ years and transitioned to solo practice in 2021. I’m blessed to have an amazing life partner. My husband is one of my best friends and my #1 cheerleader! Our family includes a beautiful teenage daughter who keeps us on our toes and never stops amazing us with her intellect, creativity, and big heart. It also includes 5 lb Yorkie who thinks she runs the house!
When I’m not working, you might find me exploring all genres of music, talking on the phone with family or friends, reading one of the books on my nightstand, listening to a podcast, occasionally binging a show on Netflix, doing laundry (why is there always so much laundry???) of course, somewhere meditating, doing yoga and as of 2025, learning to play the guitar!
Thanks for taking the time to learn about me and my story. I look forward to learning more about yours!
Live freeLy. Live Authentically
I wish you happiness, peace, and freedom to choose the life you desire to live. Namaste
