What is Myqueology?

Hi! I’m Myque (pronounced “Mike”)— and I’m so glad you are here! It may not be much, but it’s a small opportunity to share a little about myself before we potentially meet.

So much of who I am is about connecting with people. I like people. I like talking. I like talking to people! Specifically, I like learning about someone's story. We all have a personal story.

After all, we are the sum of our experiences.

Like others, my personal story includes moments of overwhelming heartache and pain, as well as moments of mind-blowing joy and happiness. Overall, the good moments have surely outweighed the bad.

Through it all, I have learned to navigate the peaks and valleys of life and have developed a passion to help others do the same. I’ve been a licensed therapist for 14 years.

I love this work because it connects me to someone’s journey and gives me the opportunity to help them along the way. I’m a helper by nature, not surprisingly, I’m a 2 on the Enneagram.

I’m an eclectic, free-spirited person. Always have been. If I had it my way, I’d be traveling the globe indulging in all the world has to offer. I have lived in 6 states and have traveled to some cool places internationally, including studying the civil war of El Salvador, living 3 months in Costa Rica, and exploring multiple countries in Africa. Living in different places and traveling abroad has given me an appreciation for our unique differences, which is why I’m passionate about supporting a diverse group of clients.

For the time being, it’s reasonable to say that my career and motherhood has grounded me. But watch out world, it’s only a matter of time that I’ll be back at it! In the future, I hope to travel to South Africa, The Maldives, Panama, Europe, and Toga, an African country, where a little girl we have sponsored since 2017 through Compassion International lives.

I was a three sport athlete when I was younger and continue to channel my athletic enthusiasm through my yoga practice. I love yoga and became a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) in 2014.

Fun fact: I received a Bachelors in psychology from the same Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in Nashville, TN that Oprah Winfrey graduated from.

A few years later I obtained a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Loyola University in Maryland. In between undergraduate and graduate school, I worked as the Lab Manager at the “Cornell Baby Lab”, a research lab at Cornell University where we studied perception development in infants ages 6 weeks to 11 months.

In 2010, I left private practice in Maryland and have been in Charlotte ever since. I was a part of a group practice here in Charlotte for 5 ½ years and recently transitioned to solo practice in 2021.

I love all genres of music and adore a good podcast! I don’t watch that much TV but admit to binging a popular Netflix series every now and again!
